GANHRI and UN partners to convene in New York for annual review and opportunities for strategic support to NHRIs

United Nations Headquarters in New York

The Annual Review Meeting of the Tripartite Partnership (TPP), to be held in New York on 18-19 June 2025, will bring together representatives of GANHRI and all four Regional Networks as well as representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The high-level delegation will be led by GANHRI Chairperson Amina Bouayach and GANHRI Secretary Alyson Kilpatrick.

Discussions between GANHRI and UN partners will focus on lessons learned and strategic opportunities for continued support to NHRIs at national, regional and global levels.

The TPP, established in 2011 by UNDP, OHCHR, and GANHRI, has for over a decade fostered collaboration between the UN system and NHRIs globally. The current funding cycle, supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, concludes this year after providing direct programmatic support to 16 NHRIs across all regions, as well as support to thematic work of NHRIs including climate change and digitalization.

The two-day gathering will focus on three main themes:

  • reviewing progress on priority areas including digital transformation and climate change and exploring opportunities for collaboration between NHRIs, TPPs partners, and the broader UN system;
  • analyzing the TPP’s catalytic impact through case studies from countries including Costa Rica, Ecuador, Georgia, Nigeria, North Macedonia, Peru, and Ukraine; and
  • developing strategic priorities for future NHRI support.

UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights Ilze Brands Kehris, UNDP Assistant Secretary General and Director of the Crisis Bureau Shoko Noda, will join GANHRI Chairperson Amina Bouayach in the opening segment.

While in New York, GANHRI Chairperson, Secretary, and Head Office Geneva Representative will engage in high-level bilateral meetings to discuss the ongoing pressures on the international human rights framework and the multilateral system.
