“Towards torture-free trade: examining the feasibility, scope and parameters for possible common international standards”

The Group of Governmental experts, established under General Assembly resolution 73/304, would like to invite representatives of National Human Rights Institutions, civil society, academics and other experts, to consultations to be held on 17 January 2022, from 15:00 to 17:00, Geneva time.

The Group is holding these consultations pursuant to General Assembly resolution 73/304, entitled “Towards torture-free trade: examining the feasibility, scope and parameters for possible common international standards”.

The purpose of these consultations is to inform a report being prepared by the Group of Governmental Experts, which will focus on perspectives on the elaboration of international standards for the import, export and transfer of goods used for capital punishment, torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, and possible ways forward.
