Regional Consultations: Understanding and identifying good practices in support of environmental human rights defenders (EHRDs) and their local communities
URG, UNEP and OHCHR with the support of Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and the Environment, Professor David Boyd are holding a series of regional consultations to identify good practices that effectively contribute to the promotion, protection and respect of EHRDs’ human rights while protecting a safe and healthy environment.
The United Nations Environment Programme and the Universal Rights Group, with the support of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, are organising a series of regional consultations on the following dates and times:
• Africa: 7 May, 14:30-17:30 NBO / 13:30-17:30 CEST
• Asia-Pacific: 5 May 10:30-13:30 UTC+5 / 7:30-10:30 CEST
• Latin America and the Caribbean: 6 May 10:30-13:30 COT / 17:30 – CEST
The meetings are designed to identify good practices at the international, regional and national levels that aim to support and protect environmental human rights defenders (EHRDs), their communities and work. The consultations also aim to identify and analyse gaps in existing United Nations (UN) guidance with a view to putting forward practical recommendations for a UN system-wide response to support the rights and particular needs of EHRDs.
