Independent Commission for Human Rights of Palestine releases urgent appeal on humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza

The Independent Commission for Human Rights of Palestine (ICHR) has issued an urgent call to National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) around the world, drawing immediate attention to the catastrophic humanitarian disaster unfolding in the Gaza Strip.
The call highlights the devastating situation following a blockade imposed by Israeli authorities since 2 March 2025, which has effectively prevented humanitarian aid and basic necessities from reaching Gaza’s two million residents. According to the appeal, the humanitarian situation has now reached an unprecedented state of collapse.
According to UNRWA reports cited in the appeal, the entire population of Gaza faces critical risk of famine, with the World Food Programme confirming that its food stockpiles in Gaza have been completely depleted.
ICHR’s appeal specifically calls on NHRIs around the world to:
- Publicly condemn the use of starvation and collective punishment against Gaza’s civilian population.
- Urge their government to act to end the blockade and facilitate immediate entry of humanitarian supplies.
- Advocate for the protection of civilians, particularly children and vulnerable populations.
- Press for intensified diplomatic efforts to end military operations and alleviate civilian suffering.
- Support the establishment of mechanisms ensuring unhindered humanitarian assistance flow.
The appeal emphasizes that rapid and coordinated action is both a moral imperative and legal and humanitarian obligation.
GANHRI has coordinated the distribution of ICHR’s call with all our members and regional networks to amplify ICHR’s plea for immediate action.
In a previous statement, GANHRI member institutions have expressed grave concern for the safety and security of ICHR members and staff in Gaza and the West Bank and called for respect of international law and the full protection of all civilians.
