At GANHRI 2026 in Geneva, NHRIs from every region examined the challenges facing human rights in the digital sphere. Discussions covered artificial intelligence and automated decision making, digital inclusion, the gendered dimensions of online harm, and the environmental footprint of digital technologies.

Placing human rights at the core of digital transformation requires clear responsibilities and coordinated action. Drawing on the GANHRI 2026 Outcome Statement, week 2 looks at what is expected of States and companies, and how NHRIs are responding through monitoring digital harms, advising on legislation, handling complaints, and cooperating across regions.
