GANHRI 2025 Annual Report: A year of new leadership and continued engagement for human rights

The Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) 2025 Annual Report shows how the alliance brought together its 119 NHRIs to strengthen human rights protection and amplify NHRIs’ voices worldwide.

Amid unprecedented pressure on the international human rights system, GANHRI welcomed new leadership in March 2025, with the election of Chairperson Amina Bouayach and Secretary Alyson Kilpatrick.

Our members stayed engaged across the year, with over 300 participants from 85 NHRIs coming together at the 2025 Annual Meeting in Geneva and GANHRI engaging across more than 15 UN and international processes. This work continues to help build faire, more inclusive societies.

The Regional Networks remain close partners in delivering the NHRI.EU project, which supports the defence of NHRIs, strengthens accreditation, and builds institutional capacity across the network. In 2025, the third phase of the project was successfully completed, and the European Commission confirmed funding for a fourth phase through 2028.
