This event will examine how National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) contribute to climate action that is inclusive, accountable, and firmly grounded in human rights. It will explore how recent Advisory Opinions and emerging international jurisprudence help clarify States’ human rights obligations in the context of the climate crisis. The discussion will highlight the practical ways in which NHRIs are using these developments to strengthen national climate governance—through monitoring, advice to public authorities, engagement with affected individuals and communities, and support for rights-based implementation of climate commitments.
