2021 Annual Meeting
From 29 June to 01 July 2021, more than 300 participants from NHRIs, UN partners and experts met online for the GANHRI 2021 Annual Meeting. The Annual Meeting included the Bureau meeting and General Assembly along with three major panel discussions.
Participants discussed promising practices developed by NHRIs to safeguard human rights during the COVID-19 pandemic. The event on Business and human rights allowed NHRIs to explore new ways of engagement in the next decade for preventing and addressing human rights abuses in the corporate world.
Finally, the high-level event on the GANHRI Global Action Plan on human rights defenders and civic space featured high-end speakers from partners and provided a platform for member NHRIs to share experiences in promoting and protecting civic space and HRDs.

Knowledge exchange of good practices
GANHRI’s 2021 Knowledge Exchange was an inclusive platform for all NHRIs to learn from experiences and good challenges put in place in all regions to address the human rights implications of the COVID-19 pandemic.
NHRIs shared advice and recommendations with peer NHRIs on next steps to take to contain the challenges in the context of the health emergency.

Event on Business and Human Rights
The event on Business and Human rights brought together NHRIs from all regions, UN partners and experts, to consider the role and contributions of NHRIs in addressing corporate-related human rights impacts.
More than 200 participants shared practical strategies for NHRIs to employ to ensure corporate respect for human rights in the next decade.

Event on GANHRI’s Global action plan for human rights defenders and civic space
The High-level event on GANHRI’s Global Action Plan to support the protection and promotion of human rights defenders and civic space aimed at gathering NHRIs from all regions, UN and EU partners and experts to exchange on experiences in protecting and promoting civic space and human rights defenders.
More than 150 participants shared practical strategies for NHRIs to employ to promote, protect and build cooperative partnerships with human rights defenders.
